Prince's pop life, song by song, in chronological order.

While “Glamorous” sounded tailor-made for Sheila’s particular talents (even if it wasn’t), “Belle” is well-crafted but faceless, embodying the essentialist cynicism of the publishing imprint Prince used for his female side projects: “Girlsongs.”
“You” was the Rebels track that pointed most directly to Prince’s future work; it’s thus unsurprising that it was also one of a handful of songs from the sessions to receive future revisions.
The Rebels project also offered Prince an opportunity to experiment with different styles outside of his official albums.
Prince’s most conventional rocker this side of “Bambi,” with a swaggering rhythm guitar riff, honky tonk piano, and either Dez or Prince playing with a slide (!).
