Prince's pop life, song by song, in chronological order.

While “Glamorous” sounded tailor-made for Sheila’s particular talents (even if it wasn’t), “Belle” is well-crafted but faceless, embodying the essentialist cynicism of the publishing imprint Prince used for his female side projects: “Girlsongs.”

Like many of Prince’s songs from this period, “Possessed” is the musical monologue of a man afflicted with chronic horniness. The unique selling proposition, in this case, is a dash of Christian demonology, as Prince’s narrator attributes the stirring in his loins to nothing short of infernal influence.
This weekend, something finally happened (or perhaps more accurately, didn’t happen/isn’t happening) in the Prince world that I feel compelled to comment on.
